How the testing process works

Manufacturers can apply for certification with a precise declaration of ingredients and a detailed description of the manufacturing process.

The natureplus institute SCE mbH decides on admission to the assessment based on the natureplus award guidelines, which are essentially determined by these factors:

Inspection of the manufacturing site(s) with verification of manufacturer's data and sampling.

Life cycle assessment of the manufacturing process, adhering to reference values, e.g., for primary energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

Product-specific laboratory tests, e.g., for VOC and formaldehyde emissions, heavy metals, biocides, and contamination with harmful substances.

Analysis of the product life cycle, taking into account environmentally responsible resource extraction, social responsibility and potential for recycling.

Step 1
‍Start & Product Assessment Application

The manufacturer applies for the certification of their building product with the natureplus Institute SCE mbH. The assessment is product- and manufacturing plant-specific. The manufacturer receives a central contact person and forms for data collection for the three sustainability areas: climate protection, resource conservation and healthy-living properties

Step 2
‍Data Submission

The manufacturer submits all required data to the natureplus Institute SCE mbH. The data is subject to confidentiality and is accessible exclusively to the audit management and, in part, to involved specialized experts.

Step 3
‍Data Verification & Factory Audit with Sampling

The audit management sends an expert to verify the manufacturer's information, formulations, suppliers, process, and energy data on site. A sample is taken from the ongoing production and sent to the involved specialized institutes for analysis.

Step 4

The audit management evaluates the submitted data, the data verification, and the analysis results regarding conformity with the award requirements of the natureplus Environmental Association. The audit management prepares an evaluation report, defines deviations and conditions, and issues a recommendation for the award.

Step 5
‍Process Audit & Certificate Issuance

The certification body verifies that the procedure has been carried out correctly and, if necessary, confirms the stipulated conditions have been met. The manufacturer then receives their natureplus certificate from the natureplus Institute SCE mbH and the natureplus Environmental Association. The certified products are published in the product database.
